About

Fine art painter with a practice centring around representation of the human form. Interested in the evolution of figurative realism within western classicism, reflections on the phenomenon of vision, and fascinated with the expressiveness of materials.
Simon first studied English literature and Philosophy, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1997. He took up painting as an extension of an interest in Art History and Aesthetics, and after ten years practicing art returned in 2007 to academic study, obtaining an MFA from Whitecliffe College of Art and Design in 2009.

Simon has been exhibited in Japan, New Zealand, Canada, and France. Notably in Beaubourg, Paris.
Simon's interest in art and architecture has also seen him make a solo bike-ride from Paris to Pompeii in 2016.

He continues through his art practice to express his unique and personal voice as a representational painter. Utilising at times a pared-down set of materials in an effort to capture a sense of lightness and immediacy within his work.
